Why English?
|
|
| Ever wonder why English became the world language? Was it politics? How did the English speaking nations become so poularor strong? What was it that made English the international language? |

| I think it was the English empire that established the World with English as a World language. All countries that are in the commonwealth have a sizeable population that speaks English, sometimes the whole of the population. English is an official language in Indonesia, India, Pakistan, Egypt, UK, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Canada, Bermuda, many Percific islands and in the USA there are more I'm sure. I doubt americans power had little to do with it. |

Because everybody seems to use it - in the internet !!!
Because of the music! And yes, because of the wonderful countries in which it's spoken. |

Blame the British Empire,
Over 50 Countries are part of the British Commonwealth, in these countries they write in British English. (1 billion people) English was also brought to other former colonies that are not part of the Commonwealth including United States. In 1940s before the United States was a world power, English was already a Universal Language and Britain was the World Power. Nearly everyday, a country around the world celebrates independence from Britain. Blame their torture, rape, and evil attiture. English was founded upon Evil. And hopefully it will die down. I hate the language. |

I am glad to see that you appreciate what the British did for you. If the British hadn't been in Zimbabwe, you would not even know the English language, and would be unable to spread your views around the world. I would like to argue about some points you've raised, but I won't bother, as you are only parroting Robert Mugabe, and we all know just how sane he is. I do not expect you will answer, nor do I expect you to see how Mugabe has torn your country apart at the seams. Perhaps Mugabe will step down soon for the rightful President of Zimbabwe, Morgan Tsangirai. |

I do not support Mugabe, Zimbabwe isn't a democracy, Mugabe is a liar and a cheat.
He shouldn't have won the election or of any past elections, the only reason he did
last time was because he only set up poling stations in farmlands, and no where else
where they are anti-Mugabe.
There was a low turnout, and if the elections were fair, he would never have won in a million years. Your right, he has and still is destroying this country. Back to English, yes it was built on Evil, the problems that exist in Zimbabwe now would never have arose if the English had never come here, and forced the language and ideoligies on us. Britain still wants to play policeman with the world, and the world can only be thankful that it is the fourth largest economy and not the first, otherwise the world would be at war again. Name a country that Britain hasn't had a war with? Name a decade Britain hasn't been at war? The country finds a way. That shows the evilness of the country. If China wanted to go to war with someone, we know who would be knocking at their door first to form a military alliance. |

| I still stand my my country, 4th largest economy and look at the size of it! such a small country, thats an achievment in its self. |

|
| yes ill have to agree with ben on this 1 |

| Funnily enough, Britain has never been at war with Ireland, though many would disagree. Perhaps Zimbabweans would have ruled its empire with greater humanity? |
