The first, I think.

Actually, both are correct but with different meanings.
The first one was comparative....this movie was the most interesting out of a list of others. The second meant that this film was just interesting in itself without being compared with any other.

"I found the book the most interesting and recommended it to my friend."
That means there was a group of books, and the book you are giving to your friend is the most interesting of them. "I found the book most interesting and recommended it to my friend." That means there was a single book, and you found it very interesting.

Actually, it would sound better to me to say
"I found the most interesting book and recommended it to my friend" for the first sentence. Or you could say "I found the book that was most interesting and..." This implies a comparison among the other books there. The sentence "I found the book most interesting and recommended it to my friend" implies that you had a high opinion of the book, that it was very interesting, and based on this observation, not a comparison with other books on their interesting-ness, you recommended it. "This movie was the most interesting."
-There's a bunch of movies, and the one you're talking about is the most interesting among them- superlative. This movie was most interesting. -In this case most could be replaced with really,(this is not a common use of most). positive "I found this movie more interesting than...whatever" comparative. |
