For the record, I am *not* "cot"-"caught"-merged, and yet they all share the same phoneme for me nonetheless.

-- Sorry to butt in here but how can they share the same phoneme if you distinguish them (phonemically)? This would be like saying I distinguish "cot" and "cat" but they share the same phoneme for me!

I was referring to the list of different words in the previous posts which I had referred to as all sharing the phoneme /O/, not the words "cot" and "caught".
