I think dutch is someting like the "middle germanic language" in the sense that it seem in the same time as close as english and as german.
You do you think about ? Is dutch closer to german or to english ?
Travis   Monday, June 13, 2005, 20:16 GMT
Sander, and underneath it all, Dutch is much closer to, say, German than English anyways. It's just the way that Dutch is written, with all the doubled letters and like, which makes many think it's close to English. Well it is, but Scots, the Frisian languages, and to a lesser extent Low Saxon are definitely closer to English than Dutch is

Absolutly German. And I disaprove of rhe term "middle germanic language" that would be the same as calling french "middle romance language"

greg   Monday, June 13, 2005, 20:19 GMT

"West Flemish (in West Flemish, Vlaemsch) is a group of dialects, spoken in parts of the Netherlands, Belgium, and France.

There is a considerable overlap between West Flemish and some neighbouring Dutch (Flemish) accents and many linguists therefore consider West Flemish a Dutch dialect."
