What's your language's closest living relative?

Hmm, I've often wondered which language is the closest to Serbo-Croatian (Bosnian)......Of
course, all the Slavic languages are pretty close, but which one would be the closest?
I guess it would be Slovenian and Macedonian, and my personal experience is that
I understand Slovenian better than Macedonian, even though a lot of people here say
the opposite.

I think french is closier to spanish than to english .

Spanish is closest to Portuguese.
Of course Spanish, being a Romance language, is closer to French than French is to
English.
English is closest to Frisian (a language obviously).

Dutch is closest to Afrikaans and modern frisian.
English is closest to OLD FRISIAN
closest language to frisian is probably Saxon
=> Modern Frisian isn't all that different from Dutch anymore , with a bit of effort
