Can anyone suggest good forums on socio-economic issues?

It seems that the moderators are hostile to socio-economic issues about English-speaking countries in this forum, because the recent excellect threads on these issues have been deleted.
Can anyone suggest good forums on socio-economic issues of English-speaking countries?

Healthcare is a divisive issue. It's better not to discuss it here.

Why do the moderators allow these threads a few days and then suddenly they delete them?

There are four issues I see raised here -- (1) why were the aforementioned threads deleted?; (2) are divisive issues allowed to be discussed?; (3) are there any other forums better suited for socio-economic discussions?; (4) why are the threads sometimes deleted after a few days?

I. DELETION OF THE SOCIO-ECONOMIC-THEMED THREADS

A quick look at the Antimoon Forum rules will provide the answer to your question. Rule #1 states:

"[If you want to post to this forum, you must agree that you will not post] [m]essages not related to languages, for example, messages about war in Iraq, the French, TV shows, sex, the weather, etc."

The threads that were deleted had to do with the British refusal to drop the pound in favor of the euro, and healthcare in the United States. Neither of these topics have anything to do with the theme of this forum -- the English language & languages in general.

In addition, threads are not deleted just because their title does not reference something language related. Each discussion is unique and it is quite possible that a language-related discussion could spring up from an unlikely source. However, if the discussion is unrelated to language and shows no signs of ever being related to language, then deletion is the only option so as not to violate the rules.

II. DIVISIVE ISSUES

There is nothing wrong with discussing divisive issues, provided that such divisive issues are related to language. A thread entitled "I don't like New York accents" might be divisive in that it could offend some people, but it does not violate the rules. A thread entitled "Why don't the British adopt the euro?" would violate the rules if no language-related discussion ensues.

III. OTHER MORE APPROPRIATE FORUMS

The Internet has more forums than one could ever keep track of. Indeed, there appears to be a forum out there to suit everyone's needs and then some. Do some Googling and I am sure you will find a forum that suits you. Antimoon, however, is dedicated to discussions about English and languages.

IV. DELETION AFTER A FEW DAYS

There are two answers to this question: (1) The moderators are people too with busy lives and whatnot. Sometimes issues of time prevent immediate deletion. I do, however, check in on the forum daily. I believe the same is true of my colleagues. (2) Also, it is sometimes a good idea to see how a discussion will develop before a preemptive deletion. Once it is determined that no language discussion is taking place or will ever take place, deletion is appropriate.

In sum, while the topics were interesting, they were not suited to the Antimoon forum. See Antimoon Forum Rules:
