trip

If you want to know how long lasted someone's trip, what would you say:
- How long was your trip?
- How long did your trip take?
or something else (and better...).
Thanx a lot

I'd say the first example is good. The second example is acceptable but you will probably hear it much less often.

I also have another question concerning trips:
When you travel by plane, you say "I flew from Paris to London", by boat "I sailed from Dover to Calais", by car "I drove from Miami to NY". And what about trains? what would you say?

Probably "I took the train from <starting point> to <destination>."
as "I took the train from New York to Boston."
or "I took the train to Chicago."

also, in the U. S. you might hear someone say "I took Amtrak..."
