English in Europe
<<Turkey is not in Europe. >>
I thought they were joining the EU (maybe).

They asked to join, but that will never happen since Turkey is not European.

<<I probably should have said "Latin/southern" countries, instead. >>
Uh, yeah, the opposite of "Northern" would be "Southern"

'Guest' : « This thread seems to exist over in the English forum, too. Two threads are better than one, I suppose.. ».
Sauf qu'ici on s'en fout : l'anglais en Europe (ou ailleurs), c'est hors-sujet.

Over there, the thread seems to have died, perhaps because the topic is boring. Here, the thread is still going strong.
You'll have to admit that in context, the post by Guest at 7:03PM was witty and brilliant -- that poster must be from the UK.

"A chunk of France is in South America and that does not make France a south American country"
Yes, France is a south-American country (at least partly).

I mean part of Turkey proper is in Europe. The west bank of the Bosporus Straight.
No, ignorant. North Africa is France: it's a part of the territoire metropolitain
It's a very tiny part compared to the whole country. Turkey is Asian, so they cannot join EU, plain and simple.
