What do you prefer, the rolled 'r' like Spanish 'r',Japanese or Russian; the machine gun 'r' like Spanish 'rr'; or the rusty 'r' like in French or German?

Why do you consider so? I like the rusty one best personally. Although it sounds harsh vocally there is just something classy about it.

Does Italian have both single trilled and double trilled r? I'm pretty sure it has no rusty r.

-- a good famous instance: "FERRARI"!

-- Classy it is. In Italy, the Agnelli family (owners of the FIAT company) is famous for their uvular 'r's. It's often ridiculed in Italy as uselessly snobbish, but indeed it sounds classy, and there is some tendency in the Piedmontese upper class to use French 'r's.

-- They are not quite the same. For some reason in standard French the 'r's ceased to be voiced in the early 60's, while in German they have to be voiced (to disambiguate from the "ach"-sound).
