see ya, see you later

I feel rude to say "see ya", especially to someone I'm not familiar with or I'm not very accustomed to...... But is it really rude?

I see "see you later" as more respectful, but is it really?

It's not rude. It's just colloquial. In some cultural circles it can mean that the person is "going way for a long time" meaning either going to get killed or going to prison. But in general it's just short for "see you"

"See ya" and "see you later" are both pretty informal. And I haven't heard "laters" in a few years.
