Can I simply call a kitten pussy?

Hua   Thu Nov 27, 2008 8:07 am GMT
Would that lead to any offence unintended?

I don't know of anybody in this modern era who would refer to a cat as "pussy" unless they were doing it tongue-in-cheek or intending to offend.

I have always wondered about this. So, "cat" is a VERY secondary meaning of the word pussy, right? Or has it lost that meaning already? Do you think it will lose that meaning, so in 30 years most people will not know "pussy" can mean "cat"? I think so...

But how about "pussycat"? That bothers me, somehow. Does anybody use it, apart from the Pussycat Dolls and Tweety Bird? It's a compound with pussy in it, so it makes sense to think of "that"... especially because you may also think of the Pussycat Dolls, and you don't link them to cats, do you?

Pussy used to innocently mean a cat and now it's impossible to seperate from it's slang meaning. This word should be banned along with cum.

Batman's not afraid to use the word pussy.

Yeah. The word is "vagina". Look in any health books and it says "vagina". "pussy" is not the correct word. but for some reason people have such stupidity that they call it that. Can't they say "vagina"? "pussy" refers to the cat or to a "pussy willow" not the vagina.

Is it really so? This seems to show it became extinct in the 60s.

Does anyone name their child "Dick" nowadays? Does anyone call a rooster "cock"? Anyone under 30 or 40? I am curious...
