adjusting to?

"Thanks for your swift work in adjusting to the air conditioner in my office last week."

Why on Earth would you need the "to" after "adjusting?"
How about "Thanks for your swift work in adjusting the air conditioner?"

"To adjust" and "to adjust to" mean two different things. "Adjusting to the air conditioner" means that it was probably quite cold in the office and the other person had to become accustomed to it or learn to live with it.
