Anyway, we need a final comparison between French and Spanish to avoid a lot of messages and a waste of time.

FINAL COMPARISON BETWEEN FRENCH AND SPANISH:

1)SPEAKERS. French is spoken by 115 million as mother tongue, 250 million as secondary speakers and 200 million as an acquired language a total of 565 million speakers. Spanish is spoken by 330 million as mother tongue (the least spoken of the international languages) 20 million secondary and foreign speakers and 350 million as total speakers.

2)INTERNET. French along with English has the largest number of websites written on it. Spanish is ninth (after English, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Japanese, Swedish and Polish)

3)STUDENTS. French is the 2nd most studied language after English, according to all the World updated webpages (2007-2009 written by non-Francophones such as Americans, British, Australians, Chinese, Japanese, Indians, etc. ). Spanish is definitely after English, French, Russian, German, and Italian

4)ECONOMIC POWER. French is definitely the second most powerful language if we consider the GDP of all the Francophone countries (France, Canad, Belgium, Switzerland and Francophone Africa) and the French minority of USA. Spanish is definitely after English, Japanese, German, French, Chinese, Italian, Russian, Indian and Portuguese.

5)TOP TEN LANGUAGES. French has the largest number of secondary speakers ahead of English. Spanish is probably 25th. It is less secondary than several national languages such as Hindi and Chinese. It is out of the top ten languages and it will be never again in the top ten.

6)DIFFICULTY. French is the easiest international language (with less tenses). Spanish is a lot more difficult.

7)SPRACHRAUM. The area of influence of French language is from Algeria to the Madagascar. It is the first or second language of all the countries of the Africa, but Anglo Africa. It is the most spoken language of Africa.

All the international languages, but Spanish, have a big area or Sprachraum where the language is spoken by over million people as foreign speakers: French in Farncophone Africa, Russian in the former USSR, Chinese in China, Arabic in the Arabic World. Spanish is definitely after English, Russian, German, French, Italian, Polish, Dutch, and Swedish) and 5th Africa (after English, French, Potuguese, Quechua, and Guarani). Castilian Spanish is the first language NOWHERE. It is even a minoritary language in Spain and Colombia(Antioquia).

8)PORTUGUESE. Portuguese is a language spoken by 225 million people in several countries of all continents. This language is very similar to Spanish. So, if you speak Spanish, you can understand over 700 million people around the World. They will be (Spanish-Portuguese speakers) over 1 billion in the near future.

9)DIPLOMACY. This point is not important for Spanish, but not nowadays. At this moment we can say that only English and French not Spanish are both official in all the World organizations. However, according to a FRENCH webpage there is a dangerous tendency for Spanish: people from Hisanic countries usually speak in English and French in UN Secretariat because only English and French are official.

10)TENDENCY: the tendency of Spanish is obvious. Spanish is on submege and sinking further because if it is risinfg how come that it's dead in the Philippines, Guam, Marianas and dying in Equatorial Guinea, Western Sahara, Northern Morocco, and even Paraguay, Bolivia, and Peru? Only French, English and Russian are increasing the number of speakers and students in the last 15 years. On the other hand, Spanish is stagnant. The number of speakers is increasing very slowly because of English, French, German, Russian, and Italian. At the same time those very few who studied in Spanish have limited vocabulary like "Hasta la vista, baby" unlike French which is mastered and spoken very fluently by its students.

According to several experts in languages, George Webber for example,Spanish is the language that will suffer the most important fall in the near future because few non-hispanics of 20 million speak it as secondary and all of these are Guarani, Quechua, Aymara, Catalan, Galician, and Basque speakers residing in hispnic countries that poses threat on Spanish.

According to this expert in languages, French, English, and Russian will be in the top and probably Arabic and Hindi too because of huge secondary and foreign speakers.

Italy can easily recover because it produces manufactured goods such as car, airplanes, machineries, med equipment, electronic goods, etc. for exports while Spain could not even manufacture a television set and relies on Costa Brava and Costa del Sol as only source of revenue. Once the tourists became fed up with Costa Brava and Costa del Sol then it's the end for Spanish economic boom.

Tourism is and will always be a strong source of income for Spain. It's much more visited than Italy, but Spain also makes manufactured goods. Spain is the second largest car manufactured in Europe only after Germany. Also Spain has a strong position in high tech fields such us biotechnology and nanotechnology, virtually absent in Italy.

"Italy is not even among the top 10 world car producers."

Because Fiat produces in France, Brazil, Argentina, Poland, Russia, Serbia, India, etc... and now also in USA: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrysler

Fiat Bestsellers Panda and 500 are did in Poland. Ford Ka, GM, Suzuki and Ford diesel engines are did by Fiat in the same factory.

Take a look: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:World_locations_of_Fiat_Group_car_manufacturing_sites.png

<<Because Fiat produces in France, Brazil, Argentina, Poland, Russia, Serbia, India, etc>>

And USA produces in Europe but still is among the top producers. Also Volkswagen produces in Brazil and Mexico but Germany is the first car maker in Europe.

FIAT stands for Fix It Again Tony

Üdo remember that Michael Schumacher won with Ferrari (Fiat Group).
Üdo   Fri Feb 06, 2009 5:25 pm GMT
You should remember that Ferrari has not won after Schumacher left. Michael could probably win in a VW Beetle.
Guest   Fri Feb 06, 2009 5:27 pm GMT
If Ferrari wants to win again they will need Fernando Alonso.
