I pronounce "un" as [ə̃], "an" as [ɑ̃] , "on" as [õ-ũ] and "in" as [ã]. Is that normal? The nasals are supposed to be (same order) [œ̃], [ɑ̃], [ɔ̃] and [ɛ̃] but I am always told that I have no accent whatsoever in French, and as far as I can tell everybody around me (Paris) pronounces them like that. I have never actually heard anyone pronounce them the "correct" way. When I do, it just doesn't sound right, especially for [ɔ̃] and [ɛ̃]. I think pronouncing French nasals the dictionary way is the key to having a foreign accent.
Any thoughts?
