I am an American and I certainly know what rubbish is. I do not know, however, what wogs, taniwhas and kumaras are. I am guessing that I wouldn't wish to know.

When you say you know what 'rubbish' is, do you mean you know it literally refers to waste that we throw out, or more just to something that isn't very good? For example, would you be familiar with both of the following:

He never puts the rubbish out

I think that idea is total rubbish

Hah hah, Midwesterners don't have an accent. Just ask them, they'll tell you.

Of course Midwesterners have ACCENTS, and many of them,
the accent in Columbus and Indianapolis is pretty standard (partially cot/caught merged), but the one in Detroit, Cleveland and Chicago is not. It's where Northern Cities Vowel Shift is taking place.
And in St. Louis, the accent is very different too.
And the Minneapolis/St. Paul region also has a pretty funny accent, but the accent from Milwaukee is the strangest...

A sample of an accented Chicagoan speaker:

I know both. One cannot be familiar with contemporary British cinema without knowing it. Your films do come to the U.S. We do also read British novels in the United States. I cannot say that I know all the slang terms of Brittan, but I certainly have picked up on the most prevalent ones.
