Is there a gay accent in English?

<<Western countries have done more good than evil. What did China do in the last 200 years? Please give me a list of INVENTIONS and IDEAS that the Chinese came up with during the last two centuries that are of any significance to the rest of the world.
>>

Why it has to be in the last 200 years? China invented ink, paper , gunpowder, and many other things. Please give me a list of ideas and inventions that the French came up with 2000 years ago..Each country has its own tempo, ones develop sooner , then stagnate, etc. Scientific development of Western would be impossible with the baggage of previous cultures and nothing tells us that this development will continue ad eternum, maybe in 100 years from now Western culture will eventually stagnate like China did. At least China is nowadays emerging again and who knows what contributions they will come up with again. Why not? They are in the end people with higher IQ than Western peoples. The important thing is the Chinese did contribute with many inventions, no matter when they did and these deserve recognition from us forever.

Can the topic be refined to: is there a guy accent in Chinese? or in any languages?

To Joyce:
I think so.

To Edward Teach:
Agreed.

To Shuimo and Une petite fille:
Both of you are pretty funny, in a childish way.

Foreigners go to China to make money. Chinese go to the West to make money too. It's the same both ways.

Capitalism and socialism have existed in China and the West for thousands of years. In fact, they have arguably existed since villages were established and trade first began in Africa and the Middle East. Europeans articulated these concepts and gave names to them.

Neither China nor the West is superior. Both have contributed to humankind's cultural development at different points in history. Give credit where credit is due.

"EVERYTHING is based on one single precept, that we MUST have EVERYTHING that we want, no matter what... So Western society is based on GREED and SELFISHNESS. 100%. That too explains the success of the West. Greed and selfishness are the most motivating emotions, and drive strongly."

To be honest, I could say the same about contemporary China. At the end of the day, Chinese and Western (especially American) attitudes are not all that different except when it comes to democracy.

<<Don't we use Plato love for homosexual love? >>

No. Platonic love is the term used for a deep, but nonsexual friendship bond. Most often it is used to describe close friends of opposite sexes that do not have a romantic relationship, but it can be applied to anyone, of course, including gay friends who are not very close but not sexually attracted to each other.

Plato love would be love between Damian and a woman.
why worship plato?   Sun Nov 22, 2009 9:39 pm GMT
Funny how people think that Plato or some ancient legend are gospel truth and evidence of something. Maybe Plato was a dickhead? Maybe the person who wrote the legend was a fuckface?

I don't understand why people here mention Plato at all. Western culture is built on Aristotelian ideas. He was the one who pointed his finger towards earth, and it was from Society, not from God, where Plato was pointing meanwhile, that Western Europe emerged.

Shumio, most of what you say is not really even worth addressing because it is simply the product of a rather limited mind attempting a profundity that just isn‘t there. I will, however, address a few of your suppositions. First, your statement that sex is not based on a continuum. Here you do a phenomenal job of illustrating your ignorance. You are still thinking in terms of binaries and what is familiarity to you. You think that there are simply male and females in this world. You are quite wrong about this notion, and I can illustrate it without having to use transsexuals as you suppose. Do you think that there is no variation in human genitalia? Do you think every penis and every vagina is alike? No, they come in all different shapes and sizes. A person can be born with a penis and ovaries. There are hundreds of variations of intresex people, and these people come into the world naturally. Furthermore, there are five--count them--five genetic sexes among humans. I think that the combination of genetic and physiological variations make quite an argument for a continuous sexuality. This doesn't even include other animals who can change their sex during the course their life time.

As far as using obscure and ancient civilizations, these are not the limit of societies and religions that accept "homosexuality". Europe and the Americas are increasingly more and more accepting of homosexuals in society. Most large companies and universities include clauses that forbid acts of discrimination against gay people in the United States. More states are allowing gay couples to marry, and the United States is largely behind Europe when it comes to gay rights. Your country is largely behind Uganda when it comes to any human or civil right.

<<Do you think that there is no variation in human genitalia? Do you think every penis and every vagina is alike?>>

What does it matter if they are slightly different? It's like in computer science. Penis = 1. No penis= 0. Penis + Vagina = error. Every piece of genitalia is slightly different, so I guess there are 6 billion different sexes? That would pretty much mean the concept of sexuality is moot and has no meaning, but surely that can't be, after all I am quite aware of sexuality every single time I walk down the street, how can it be moot?

<<You are still thinking in terms of binaries and what is familiarity to you.>>

Thinking in binaries is often a legitimate viewpoint, or a legitimate simplification of reality. Sometimes the world is too complicated to take every exception into account. The continuum may exist, but sometimes you need categories. Or should I get a single mother benefit because I'm 1/233 part female? Should a person be disqualified from a female sporting event because she is 1/14 part male? Where do you draw the line? You need to draw the line somewhere.

<<Furthermore, there are five--count them--five genetic sexes among humans. I think that the combination of genetic and physiological variations make quite an argument for a continuous sexuality.>>

Five is not a continuum. Five is five.

<<This doesn't even include other animals who can change their sex during the course their life time. >>

What do animals that change sex during their life have to do with anything... We may as well say that humans can fly because birds can fly.

<<

Just because it is mentioned in some legend or story doesn't mean it is actually accepted. It may have just been an 'idea' that people recognised as a possibility, but it could be rather different if someone really actually did it. For example, there are plenty of stories glorifying murder or whatever, but if someone murders in real life they would be condemned.

Are you saying that homosexuals should be treated the same as murderers?
Felix the Cat   Mon Nov 23, 2009 8:51 am GMT
They should be treated as trespasses... anal trespasses, that is ;)
Shuimo   Mon Nov 23, 2009 9:48 am GMT
I can't agree with devil's advocate more!
I feel no need on my part for any further argument over Wintereis's filmy ignorant assumptions, which are utter utter wishful thingking drugged by post-modern opiums!
Turtle   Mon Nov 23, 2009 10:08 am GMT
What's wonderful though is that Shuimo here is alone in his opinions. Those who agree with him aren't listened in Western governments: gay rights and marriage are winning ground every day!

Is that sarcasm, Turtle?
