Americans and a retarded Russian bimbo Marina O.

I wonder how it was possible that this feather-brained bimbo gained such a popularity in the USA that she even regularly appears in the Faux News television. It's quite shocking for me. A philologist, huh? She can't correctly pronounce words which etymology she tries tells about (= recites information from Wikipedia and Etymonline). Her accent is horrible. Why do they, Americans, promote that talentless slutty chick, who murders their own mother tongue?
Amabo   Sun Nov 15, 2009 4:16 pm GMT
I'll go out on a limb here and postulate that her popularity might just have something to do with the fact that she is an attractive young blonde with a European accent.

What's your particular beef? Was she an ex-girlfriend who jilted you?

I think the old moron O'Reilly from the Faux News promotes her just because he want just to hump her or he's just done it.

What's my beef?

I've seen that bad grammar and bad language habits are promoted under cover of linguistic education or something. It especially hurts people who learn English, they should to learn good pronunciation and if someone listens to that crap by chance, they contaminate their "input". If that bimbo restricted her appearance to Youtube (250 mln views = 250 mln people's minds filled up with bad grammar! - someone think they are learning English but in fact they are ruining it). But since this crap leaked out to the traditional mass-media, it's a very bad thing, it's harmful to listeners' minds. An explanation:

http://www.antimoon.com/other/myths-mistakesok.htm
-----------------------------
"Mistakes are not harmless. Every time you say an incorrect phrase in a foreign language, you increase the probability that you will say that phrase again. Therefore, if you speak with mistakes, you can easily teach yourself bad grammar.

A lot of people think it's more important to improve your fluency than to improve your correctness. If you follow this path, after some time you may find you can speak the language with ease, but it will be largely your own version of the language — not correct language as it's spoken by native speakers. In other words, you may become quite fluent in speaking the wrong way.

Perhaps such a state is more desirable than not speaking at all. But when bad grammar comes to your mind so easily, it becomes very difficult to improve. When you've been saying things like "He go away" for the last two years, it's not so easy to start saying "He went away" all of a sudden.

The point is that it's hard to go from "fluency with mistakes" to "fluency without mistakes". It's much easier to start from "careful, correct output" and then work on your speed to reach "fluency without mistakes".

It's a forum about the linguistic purism, isn't it?

Results 1 - 10 of about 4,060,000 for "should to do"

The funniest example I've found: "I should to go grad school".

I LOL'd the crap out of me.

Maybe 'should to' is correct, isn't it?

http://www.eslbase.com/articles/bilingual.asp
"I have studied two languages. At the present time I am teaching English to an American woman. Because she knows I understand Spanish, she does not make the effort she __should to__ learn English - she insists on translating English to Spanish mentally and then translates back to English, which of course does not translate correctly."

http://www.ekklesia.co.uk/node/9521
" Instead, they __should to__ learn to discern the activity of the Spirit in the world. They can use Paul’s checklist in Galatians of the fruits of the Spirit - love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control. Wherever these are found, we can be assured that God is at work".

Give me an example of her bad grammar.

A bad accent doesn't hurt anyone.

For example, she omits articles or uses they inappropriately. 95% of Russians and Poles are unable to correctly use articles even after 20 years of using English.

E.g. here is a transcript of an interview with her. A journalist put corrections in the brackets [ ] to prove that her grammar sucks, although he pretends to be "a linguist" (maybe a 'cunnilinguist', I think):
http://www.bettyconfidential.com/ar/ld/a/Marina-Orlovas-Lust-for-Words.html

"and they are [a] very popular show"

"So it’s [a] great opportunity"

"I got an email and I had no idea who [Bill O’Reilly] was"

"I did not find myself in the movie, and my friend[s] taped the movie, and they [did] a [search]… frame-by-frame"

"Hot for Words – since I’m hot, you know, I’m hot (laughs), and I’m obsessed with words, so Hot for Words."

Even one of her sidekicks admitted one of the aforementioned issues: "Hi Mike, that’s what I was going to say, that Marina forgets the articles."

If she tries to say something without reading a speech, nothing comes out of her mouth but a long chain of solecisms. She is a female version of Borat, but why they are promoting her in TV as a 'linguist'?

Is "should to" correct in British English too?
opyt   Sun Nov 15, 2009 8:48 pm GMT
95% of Russians and Poles are unable to correctly use articles even after 20 years of using English.

This also occurs if they speak a Romance language...
A.   Sun Nov 15, 2009 9:10 pm GMT
I'm Polish, and I place articles where necessary 95% of the time. I don't have much trouble with it because instead of relying on some rules, I just write what sounds right.

I have to disagree with opyt. In Romance languages, the rules for article usage are much less ambiguous than they are in English. An omitted article in French will usually look like a glaring error. But in English - not so much...

I guess she's searching for a real American man who will bang her so fucking hard that cum will be dripping out of her thru the ears. Russian girls like that game and they are so lascivious that it's impossible for one man to fullfill their lust. I had a Russian girlfriend once but I had to jilt her becouse my dick was always getting injured.
