1.The crowd does its duty and tries to sing "Auld Lang Syne," a traditional song of friendship at the New Year. Most people only know the first few words. The song is pretty much a mystery. But a fun mystery.

How do i understand "pretty much "in the sentence"The song is pretty much a mystery"?

2.The home gas is used out,and have to get another one.How should i express this. How about "i want to exchange a pot of gas"?

thanks!

1. "Pretty much" similar in meaning to "approximately". It's used to show that you're not being exact.

2. I'm not sure what you mean. Who are you trying to express that to?

1) Here, "The song is pretty much a mystery" = The song is almost a complete mystery etc. i.e. it is almost unknown.

2) If you are talking about the sort of gas which is not connected to a gas network, then you'd say: "I've run out of gas. Can I fill my gas canister up?"

Hope that helps :)

Ben.
