What is the meaning of 'once you pop you can't stop'?

It is and advertising slogan for Pringles. Its intended meaning is that once you pop off the top of the Pringles can, you can't stop eating. It's a rather dumb slogan.

Why is it any dumber than any other? People remember it and can quote it, so it is effective. How is that dumb?

Pringles cans have less and less content every year. First they had 200 grams, now they have 150g but are on contrast more expensive. They are not even true crisps as only have 42% popato.

< Once you pop, you can't stop >

It's a clever and effective slogan. Apart from the appropriate sound effect, it legitimises immoderate consumption.

"Eat the lot. Everyone else does. Besides, you don't have any choice."

Commercial slogans are dumb because their target is the average joe, which is usually also dumb.

Um, no. Anyone can eat Pringles. Everybody eats, smart or dumb. Yes, even snack food, especially in America. The average Joe is everybody.

The fact is that this slogan is one of the most well known, not only by dumb people but by everyone. So it is not dumb. End of matter.

You might as well say that phishing is dumb because its targets aren't too bright.

Or that setting a mousetrap is dumb because mice have limited faculties.

If it gets them to pop that top, it's done its job.

The fact that the slogan is one of the most well known (probably in dumbland) means that most of people are stupid and naive, due in part to these ads being repeated over and over on TV. It is a run-around.

Isn't it so that, well, here in holland, there used to be an addictive ingredient in the pringles called feytsin, whitch makes it no more than logic that you can't stop eating after tasting the first?
the slogan is't used here anymore, maybe because feytsin is now forbidden in the netherlands?
