I guess chinese is more difficult for a frenchman than other european languages to study. Because tones and stresses are fundamental in chinese language. Italian, spanich, english, german ones have some stress rules too, but in France, there isn't any one (it is a "flat" language). It has always been difficult for me to place the stress at the right place.
