Le mot <Plattdüütsch> est la version bas-saxonne du vocable allemand <Plattdeutsch> dont l'équivalent français est <bas-saxon> = <bajo sajón> en castillan.

Voir <Nederduits> et <Nedersaksisch> en néerlandais.

Voir <Niederdeutsch> et <Niedersächsisch> en allemand.

Voir aussi <Plattdütsk> et <Oostfreesk>.

It's a German variant, simple as that!

Plattdüütsch is Low German (Saxon or Franconian) varieties in Germany. Name of those varieties in the Netherlands and Belgium is Platduits (Nedersaksich) or Platdiets (Nederfrankisch).

<Plattdeutsch> is (Flat-Deutsch or flat German) meaning the breed of Deutch/German spoken in the vast flatlands of northern Germany.

<Low German> means untermensch/workingman's speech rather than the high German spoken by the German upper classes and the queen of England.

Appropriately, Plattdeutsch represents a modern descendant of Old Saxon dialects spoken on the S coast of the North Sea region. It is therefore not a form of the German language (Hoch Deutsch), but rather a separate language.

<<vast flatlands of northern Germany. >>

--OR-- possibly that it refers to "flat/low" meaning "common, not fancy" as opposed to "high" meaning "sophisticated".
barios orgasmos   Wed May 12, 2010 4:51 pm GMT
Bavarian German is hardly sophisticated.
High means hilly, spoken in hills.

Plattdeutsch is group of dialects-descendants of Middle Low Saxon and Middle Low or Middle High Franconian. Kleverlandish dialect is Low German Franconian dialect, the same as Dutch Gelderish dialect, also is called Plattdeutsch:
Kleverlandish:„Ek heb noch efkes afgewaachd, ob dat, wach`e min seggen wold."
Standard German:„Ich habe noch kurz abgewartet, was Du mir sagen wolltest.“
Dutch: „Ik heb nog even gewacht op wat je me zeggen wou.“
