Chinese rising in importance

The different dialects of Chinese have different grammar, though. There are laos some characters that are unique to certain dialects.

I can't figure out why is it impossible to learn chinese. If you are talking about history, customs, etc. I agree it may take time. I had a Chinese History teacher that knew more about this country, especially about Taoism, than any Chinese I've met since I came here in 2003. She had cancer in 2002 and passed the way.
I personally think that many many many Chinese don't speak Mandarin. They always speak a dialect or have a strong accent when try to say something in Mandarin.
Have you heard about a country where people speak in mother tongue on TV and their words are subtitled? Yes - China.
