>> 2, Wunese: In Shanghai, Suzhou, and some nearby cities(Jiangsu Province), people speak Northern Wunese. And in Wenzhou and some nearby cities(Zhejiang Province), people speak Southern Wunese there. <<

Isn't it the easiest because it only has 2 cases?

中文 - Chinese Mandarin as it is, is one the most interesting languages than any other languages cos of it's caligraphic form. So nice when it was written that u will simply feel refresh and mesmerized.
Not so much as it sounds but it was difficult for memorising as well. It has no alpahabets so each word has it's own form. Nevertheless, learning simplified chinese is enough and far more effective than traditional text. Well good luck , Chinese all the way ..

<< "Mandarin and Cantonese are as close as German and English"

no, mandarin and cantonese share the almost identical grammar system and vocabulary. they're much closer than german and english. >>

A Chinese PhD linguist assessed the difference between Mandarin and Cantonese as approximately the difference between English and Sweedish.

Mandarin is NOT far from Cantonese, for example: "Where are you now"?

In Mandarin: 現在你在哪裡?(Modern Chinese)
In Cantonese: 而家你喺邊度?(Archaic Chinese)

PERHAPS.

CHINESE: IT DEPENDS ON TWOCOUNTRIES. IF JAPAN AND SOUTH KOREA PREFER SPEAKING CHINESE TO ENGLISH, THE ANSWER IS YES. CHINESE WILL BE THE MOST IMPORTANT LANGUAGE IN ASIA.

SPANISH: IT DEPENDS ON TWO COUNTRIES: USA AND BRAZIL. IF USA AND BRAZIL HAVE SPANISH AS SECOND LANGUAGE WILL BE THE MOST IMPORTANT LANGUAGE OF THE AMERICAS.

SO, ENGLISH, CHINESE, SPANISH, AND PERHAPS ARABIC WILL HAVE MORE OR LESS THE SAME IMPORTANCE. THESE LANGUAGES WILL BE THE DOMINANT LANGUAGE IN AN IMPORTANT AREA.

A Spanish ambassador (perhaps former) to an important Asian country (not Japan) stated that there are about one million Japanese who are studying Spanish.

In 2004 or 2005 China introduced regular Spanish language programs onto its State television.

Here in Australia, I have come across a large number of people of many different ancestories who are studying Spanish. From this and other experiences, one could be excused for thinking that the widely publicised estimates for the numbers of people studying Spanish are gross under estimates. Note that I am not saying that these widely publicised estimates are not good estimates.

Consider this - The globilization of the world seems to be creating an upsurge in peoples' interest in the study of languages. Where does the English speaking world go to? One may come across people whose native language is WXYZ. Most of the WXYZ speakers are helpful, but inevitably you come across some WXYZ native speakers who enjoy making mince meat of your attempts at the WXYZ language. This puts you off the WXYZ language. A similar chain of events occurs with the STUV language. Where do you (here "you" could mean the English speaking world or part thereof) go - You go to the world's other world language which is Spanish. Investing time in studying the world's other world language is very unlikely to be time wasted. And if you come across the WXYZ speakers who previously made mince meat of your attempts at the WXYZ language and they try their same games again, you can say to them - Hey the Spanish speaking people react very positively when I use their language with them, why don't you? Also, note that Spanish and Italian are amongst the easiest languages in the world for English native speakers to learn.

I am not saying that Spanish will necessarily become the world's number one language, but it will certainly shake the other competing languages to their very foundations in this contest for the number one position.

Yes, China's CCTV really set up 3 series of TV programs, English program, French program, and Spanish program, but these programs are actually only suited to the needs of foreign spectators instead of Chinese public.
I mean that English program is for English-speakers, French program is for French-speakers, and likewise Spanish program is for Spanish-speakers.
