Please Provide Some Financial Information

Alimony, child support, or separate maintenance income need not be revealed if you do not wish it to be considered as a basis for repaying this obligation.

This is from a card application page at Amazon.

What does 'repaying this obligation' mean?
Shoud it have to be written that way?

Besides, what's the separate maintenance income?

I'd very appreciate your answers.
Thank you.

Repaying the obligation = repaying the loan.

Separate maintenance income would be something either similar to alimony or a trust fund; unearned income, in other words. Usually it is treated differently than earned income for tax and loan purposes.
