superannuated?

When people say a certain actor is already superannuated, do they mean that this actor is not popular anymore or that he or she has been so popular that he or she has already earned enough money and can retire / don't need to work anymore?

Re: "Superannuated"

A good word to bring to our attention. Below is one of my favorite internet sources for checking the meaning of words.

Dictionary.com gives its etymology as Medieval Latin. Medieval Latin words are interesting in that they are sometimes curiosities which were unused by the classical Roman writers and unknown to them , like 'Rugus / Rusus / Ruthenus' (Russian), 'balingera' (whale boat) and 'scorpionarius' (crossbowman).
