How do you pronounce "catch"?
american nic   Sun Mar 26, 2006 11:30 pm GMT
I pronounce it like 'ketch'. But I think I'm in the minority.

I also pronounce it like "ketch" [kEtS]. I honestly don't know which pronunciation is in the majority in the US.

/k{tS/ just as it's spelt.

Actually, it's spelt "catch".

I pronounce catch as catch, and ketch as ketch.

I myself pronounce "catch" as [k_hE{tS], where [E{] is a diphthong.

I pronounce it [k_hatS] but I have a foreign accent.
Uriel   Tue Mar 28, 2006 4:59 pm GMT
As spelled. Never with an E.

I always pronounce it as it as spelled, with the first syllable rather like the word "cat". I see no reason to pronounce it any other way.

I believe I normally pronounce "catch" as [k_h{tS] (or, to be technical, usually somewhere in between [{] and [a]). [k_hEtS] doesn't sound like something I'd say but I've heard people use that pronunciation before.
