"so to speak"

"One in THREE new fathers have tried their partners breast milk"

Been trying to think of one, its not really a thing you can plan, unless you are the pun writer for The Sun. Anyway, they are obviously big supporters of local produce..so to speak.

Man that was crap.

Jim C, Jorvikskyr, that's funny. LOL, so to speak.

I'll take it that "so to speak" doesn't mean anything in its own right, so to speak.

Yep, "so to speak" is mostly just filler.

Do you live in Hong Kong, Mandy? (Just 'cause "Mandy Lee" is such a typical HK name.) During the WTO session last year, there was a British female reporter on TVB Pearl who kept saying "blah blah, so to speak, blah blah, so to speak..." It was as if she couldn't think of any other filler to say whilst she was thinking of her next phrase, so to speak.

I don't live in Hong Kong. Malaysia actually. I do have some hongkey (hongky?) friends.

<<there was a British female reporter on TVB Pearl who kept saying "blah blah, so to speak, blah blah, so to speak..." ?>>

I never thought that british reporters would be at a lost for words. LOL. Never happened with reporters on BBC.
