I've heard all my life what I think is the English version of it something like: Dee-sl, with mute second "e" letter. But I'd like to know if in German it is mute too or if it is pronounced complete like Dee-eh-sel.
Pronunciation of word "Diesel" in German
Diesel:
Very correct form: /di:zel/
Everyday speech: /di:zl/
Selig:
North German: /zeliç/ or /ze:liç/
(Bavarian coloured Hochdeutsch: /zelik/ or /ze:lik/)
The first vowel is no diphtong, but would normally be written "Seelig" in Germany if it was so supposed to be long.

In Munich, s- is normally pronounced [s], not [z]: so [so], Siemens ['sim@ns], and [iç] is normally pronounced [iS] (isch) while in Northern Germany [ik] is preferred (ICH: [IS] in Munic, [Ik] in Hamburg)
Da fällt mir Vin Diesel ein. Den würde doch kein Deutscher in englischem Stil aussprechen:
Vin Diesel, der Sohn von Inge Meisel :-O
