Do I have to change the way I learn to prepare for the test?

I'm learning English with the way this site teaches me.. and I think it's right. But now I just decided to go to graduate school so I have to start to prepare for the test. TOEFL and GRE. I wonder if I should change my way to learn or not. Because everybody around me told me that I have to go to English institute for the test. Memorize the pattern and adjust with questions. I really don't want to get back to the older way because I already realized it doesn't even help me. Please help me to get through with this. Thank you so much.

An accurate test result requires that you take it with the knowledge of English you have, rather than cheat with coaching techniques. It depends on whether you want an accurate measurement of your English ability or just a high-enough score to satisfy whatever party is asking to see the scores. Obviously if your goal is the latter, than you should seek specific coaching for the tests rather than try to actually learn English.
