The question does warrant for a discussion.
According to D.Jones, the last syllable should be stressed, while I've often heard people stress the first. The same with "princess" and "magazine".

Of course I never correct them, but my mind does.

<<I pronounce it /noU smoUkIN/.>>

This post by "Lazar" was not written by me. You can tell it's not me because I tend to use phonetic brackets, rather than phonemic brackets, when I give transcribed pronunciations, and I prefer to use [7U] rather than [oU] for my own speech. Also, I always mark stress.

Anyway, I pronounce "cigarette" as [sIg@"r\Et], with a "short i" in the first syllable, and the stress on the last syllable.

Don't worry Lazar, I realised it wasn't you even before reading your explannation. You don't ever post crap like that troll above. Whenever you take the keyboard to post something is to give an intelligent answer to our questions.

I can smell trolls from miles away... I used to troll aroud when I was younger.

By the way, mates... Happy new year. It's a bit late now, 11:33 here in Peru, but I was having a dance so I could not send any greeting before.
