For that matter also means: "So far as that is concerned" or "as for that".

“Two hours is about as long as any American can wait for the close of a baseball game, or anything else *for that matter*.”

“Republican institutions cannot exist for long where there is enforced labor; or *for that matter* where there is enforced idleness”
