Could any one tell me what is the status of English language speakers around the world?

Both English as the first language and English as a second language.

There are about 370 million first-language speakers, and there are around 1.2 to 1.6 billion second-language speakers.

Only 370 million first-language speakers? I know not every resident of an English-speaking country actually speaks it, but with the US having a population of about 300 million, Canada another 50 million or so, 60 million in the UK, 20 million in Australia, and various & sundry other speakers in New Zealand, South Africa, other parts of Africa, the Caribbean, etc., I would think the number would be a little higher.
