American friends why are you talking about America only? Let's talk about the magnificient results of Spanish superiority in Europe. Take Italy for example. The Spanish domination in some Italian areas of the country in XVII century made it collapse in its darkest historical period since the falling of Roman Empire and all this also considering the country was for the previous two centuries the beacon of civilisation. They succeeded in destroying the supreme achievements of Renaissance and sinked Italy in a shitty condition for the entire following century, good work Spain!
While in Northern Italy spaniards were kicked out, South Italy had to bear Spanish domination for long with catastrophical results. Spanish kings in Italy were the worst of any time.

Don't forget what Spain did to Belgium and the parts of The Netherlands.

The problem you have is that :
Veis la paja en el ojo ajeno y no veis la viga en el vuestro.
since you are forgeting may other contenders and circumstances:
Spanish and Austrian hegemony was not always based on direct rule; while many states, such as Venice, did not come under the direct control of the empires, all of Italy relied on them for protection against external aggression. Furthermore those areas under direct Spanish and (later) Austrian control were theoretically independent principalities bound to the Spanish and Austrian empires through personal unions alone.
Italy experienced a period of relative peace in the seventeenth and eighteeth centuries. However, the Italian economy stagnated due to the decline of the Mediterranean trade routes; in the early seventeenth century the economy experienced a depression.

Also, take a look at this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:10kMiles.JPG and tell me what you think of this.
There are a lot of other examples in history so don't tell me 'chorradas'. After all: a spanish saying(from Calderon): EN ESTE MUNDO TRAIDOR NADA ES VERDAD NADA ES MENTIRA TODO ES SEGUN EL COLOR DEL CRISTAL CON QUE SE MIRA.

The French had better say goodbye to their grand language. In the near future, they will be saying "Allah Akhbar". It's God's way of judging an agnostic, atheistic nation.

Spain is a Muslim country, Spaniards are Muslims, and Spanish is a nice dialect of Arabic. They are the enemy.

Who believes such fairy tales and superstitions?
