Considering what I read on this forum I'm more than convinced to study Spanish

Castellano is minority in Spain because of Catalan. Galician, Basque, Asturian, Aragoneses, Leonese; Same thing in Latin America because in Peru, Bolivia, and Ecuador, majority speak Quechua/Aymara; In Paraguay, Guarani; Portunhol in Uruguay; Lunfardo in Argentina; Quiche in Guatemala; The rest speak forms of Spanish that are so removed from Castellano that are evolving into speehes similar to Papiamento, Chamorro, and Chavacano.

So, Spanish/Castellano is the mother tongue of Castilia only merely 15 million.

A world language can´t be spoken by 20 million people as a secondary speakers. It is has fewer secondary speakers than Chinese, Hindi, Bahase Indonesia, and even Swahili.

The only difference with Chinese, Hindi, Bahasa Indonesia, and Swahili is that Spanish is a European language by accident.

French: 190 million speakers as secondary tongue

English: 150 million speakers as secondary tongue

Spanish: 20 million speakers as secondary tongue.

Spanish has an important problem. Spain cannot spend an incredible amount of money in Spanish, Hispanic nations are always insistingSpanish in international organizations, Hispanic countries have a poor marketing strategy to persuade that Spanish is important.... but everybody doesn't want to speak it because they find it like a PIECE OF SHIT.

Non-hispanics find it loathsome.

PEOPLE THAT SPEAK THE LANGUAGE AS SECONDARY SPEAKERS ARE THE BASIS OF AN INTERNATIONAL LANGUAGE, NOT THE NATIVE SPEAKERS.

If language is spoken by a lot of people is good(Spanish or Chinese) but the most important thing is that the language is official in many organizations(Postal Union or FAO).

Spanish is not indeed an international language.

Click these links to find out why: http://www2.ignatius.edu/faculty/turner/languages.htm and http://www2.ignatius.edu/faculty/turner/worldlang.htm.

According to this sites Spanish(20) is behind English(37) and French(23) after weighing the 6 factors:
1. Number of primary speakers
2. Number of secondary speakers
3. Number and population of countries where used
4. Number of major fields using the language internationally
5. Economic power of countries of the languages
6. Socio-literary prestige

Spanish like Chinese got its strength in Factor Number 1. It relied only on the large number of speakers and countries where it is natively spoken.

But when it comes to secondary speakers, it has only 20 million speakers as opposed to French with 190,000,000 and English with 150,000,000.

In the outer core, Spanish is zero while English and French have 24 and 18 respectively.

In the fringe countries, English has 82, French 12, Russian 11, and Spanish just 1 (USA?).

This study is based on the articles of Dr. Bernard Comrie, George Weber and Ethnologue.

While any language will be useful for some jobs or for some regions, French is the only foreign language that can be useful throughout the world as well as in the United States. French as a foreign language is the second most frequently taught language in the world after English. The International Organization of Francophonie has 51 member states and governments. Of these, 28 countries have French as an official language. FRENCH IS THE ONLY LANGUAGE OTHER THAN ENGLISH SPOKEN ON FIVE CONTINENTS. FRENCH AND ENGLISH ARE THE ONLY TWO GLOBAL LANGUAGES.

French, along with English, is the official working language of:

the United Nations
UNESCO
NATO
Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD)
the International Labor Bureau
the International Olympic Committee
the 31-member Council of Europe
the European Community
the Universal Postal Union
the International Red Cross
Union of International Associations (UIA)

French is the dominant working language at:

the European Court of Justice
the European Tribunal of First Instance
the European Court of Auditors in Luxembourg.
the Press Room at the European Commission in Brussels, Belgium

One example of the importance of French can be seen in a recent listing of international jobs (4/30/02) distributed by the U.S. State Department: 111 required or preferred French, 45 Spanish, 44 a UN language (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, and Spanish), 10 Arabic, 9 Russian, 3 German, 2 Chinese.

Of the various types of professional positions for which international organizations recruit, five required French, two Spanish, one Portuguese, and one Arabic, according to the fact sheet released by the UN Employment Information and Assistance Unit Bureau of International Organization Affairs U.S. Department of State, December 1, 2000.

I'm French but I must recognize that Spanish is more popular in Western Hemisphere. French is now basically an african languaje, France itself is becoming an arabian-subsaharian country. Spanish eventually will become an official languaje in all states of U.S. It is being taught in Brazilian schools, so in a not so far future Spanish will be the languaje of all America continent, from the south of Argentina to Alaska. Also ,one thing that that Spanish has and French don't: Spanish is much more similar to Latin. Spanish is wonderful, superior to French in every aspect and this can't be discussed, not even by a french like me.

The Economics of French and France:

French is the foreign language spoken by our largest trading partner (Canada).

The province of Quebec alone is the fifth largest trading partner of the United States with over $104 billion in trade in 2000.

In 2000, the United States exported more to countries having French as a national language than to countries having any other foreign language. Exports to Canada alone in that year were greater than the combined exports to all countries south of the United States.

In 1994 the United States did business and trade with the following countries in order of importance: 1. French-speaking countries; 2. Japan; 3. Spanish-speaking countries.

Between 1995 and 2001 exports from the U.S. to France increased by 57%; imports from France went up 72%.

The U.S. and France share many trade similarities, particularly their global standing as the world's top 2 exporters in 3 very important sectors: defense products, agricultural goods, and services. Franco-American trade is also remarkable for its symmetry, as 6 of the top 10 exports are the same each way.

France has the fourth largest economy in the world after the U.S., Japan and Germany.

France is the second largest exporter of agricultural products in the world after the U.S.

In recent years, the U.S. has been the largest direct investor in France and France has been one of the three largest investors in the U.S.

French companies employ over 400,000 Americans.

French is one of the languages spoken in the U.S.: 1.9 million Americans speak French in the home. (2000 U.S. Census)

France is the fourth largest destination of foreign investments in the world.

Overall, the French export more per capita than the Japanese and more than twice as much as the Americans. France is overall, the fourth largest exporting nation of the world.

France is the world's leader in the production of luxury goods.

More tourists visit France than any other country in the world.

France has rated higher than the United States on the United Nation's Human Development Index (HDI) in recent years (1997-99). Canada has been ranked higher in each of these years. The HDI measures the overall achievements in a country in life expectancy, educational attainment and adjusted income.

France gives more foreign aid to developing nations than the U.S..

Science and Technology:

Seven of France's top ten exports to the U.S. are industrial or high technology products.

France is the fourth largest producer of automobiles in the world (Renault, Peugeot, Citroën) and the third largest exporter. (All Mack trucks are manufactured by Renault.)

France is fourth in research among countries of the Organization for Economic Development and Cooperation (after Japan, Germany, and the U.S.).

France is a major world research center in the field of high energy physics.

The French are a world leader in medical research: the AIDS virus was first isolated by French doctors.

The French are a leader in medical genetics (the Human Genome Project is located in Paris).

The French are the world's third manufacturers of electronics equipment.

European leader in aerospace (Aérospatiale, Arianespace, Airbus...).

Most commercial satellites are put into space on French Ariane rockets.

The fastest train (TGV) is French.

The fastest commercial airplane (Concorde) is French (built in collaboration with British Airways).

France is the world's third military power (after the U.S. and Russia), and has the world's second largest defense industry (i.e. exocet missiles, radar technology.)

France is the world's second largest builder and exporter of civilian and military aircraft and helicopters (Airbus is the world's second largest fleet of commercial airliners, and many of the U.S. Coast Guard helicopters are made by Aérospatiale in Toulouse.)

France has one of the most advanced systems of telecommunications in the world. Fiber optics were invented in France.

France is the world's largest manufacturer of television sets (HDTV was invented in France).

Importance of French in school and work

Historically France and the French language have had an enormous influence over American society. France was the United States' first ally. French thought played a dominant role among the founders of the United States in the 18th century, and it continues to shape America today through the influence of such intellectual currents as post-structuralism and post-modernism. In the humanities and the social sciences, many of the most important writings have come from France. Students and researchers who know French have access to these works for several years before they are translated into English. Many significant works are never translated and remain accessible only to those who know the language. In addition, most graduate schools require knowledge of at least one foreign language, and French remains the most commonly used language after English.

When employers and universities look at applicants, they do not start looking at the bottom of the list to see who has done only the minimal amount of requirements necessary or taken the easiest route available, they start at the top of the list and look for those students who have risen above the rest. High school students should consider studying at least four years of a foreign language. College students should seek to earn a minor in French or have French as a primary or secondary major. With French they have access to the most widely spoken foreign language in the world after English and they become familiar with a culture that significantly influences our own. The French economy is one of the strongest in the world and is increasingly a leader in technological innovation. In sum, French is the language of the future.

Mistake number 1, you should have posted this message some other time becuse a lot of ant-hispanic knoes that you use severl aliases.

Mistake number 2, Spanish eventually will become an official languaje in all states of U.S. - "languaje" doesn't exist in both English and Spanish. You mixed "language" and "linguaje".

You're a real BOBO because it' a crap even when you dissimulate.

1- This is my first message posted on antimoon. I promisse you.

2-Sorry but I don´t speak English very well, and make some mistakes like that, as I said I am French, and here not all people speak English properly.

You should be more educated, man.

The contents of your message tells what's your origin. Only a gullible person would believe your lies and only hispanics would disguise as a Frenchman, Geramn or whatsoever to sabotage other languages to elevate Spanish.

Los hispanicos son are sin valores and traidores.

The hispanics are cowards and traitors because they use other identities. they're afraid that the whole world would see their weaknesses when it comes to reasoning.

Well, my Frog mates:

1. French is more important in the Diplomatic field, because is only spoken by Diplomatics, civil servants and two or three policemen in the former French colonies. For instance, in Congo is spoken by 4% of population. It is almost no spoken.

2. French is not a global language. No es un idioma global. Le français est une merde.

3.French is very weak in Asia. In the Americas it is only spoken in a province of a country (Quebec, Canada). In Europe is fourth (after English, Russian and German). In Africa...who cares Africa!!

4. It is official in 28 countries and spoken by 128 million people. FRENCH IS NOT IN THE TOP TEN LANGUAGES, AND NEVER WILL BE THERE AGAIN.

5. French is first language (at least spoken by 51% of people) in France and Monaco. In all other French countries is second, third or ... seventh. For instance, in Canada, Belgium or Switzerland is second.

6. The average is very poor 128 million/28 countries is 4,4 m. If you don´t add France, the average is extremely poor.

7. French is the mother tongue of 80 million people. It is 18th IN THE WORLD RANKING. THERE ARE 17 LANGUAGES MORE SPOKEN THAN FRENCH, LIKE TAMIL OR TELUGU (INDIA). Almost all medium languages in Asia will be more spoken than French in the near future.

8. French is like Latin. A waste of time at school. A former subject that is not removed because there are some old teachers and they can´t be fired.

9. There is only a global language: English. In France, Switzerland, Quebec and Belgium almost everybody speak English. So, French is not useful.

10. According to several reports, there will be a change in hierarchy of languages. Chinese, English, Spanish, Arabic, Hindi, and Turkish will be the winners. French, of course, the looser.

11.French is coming down in all the world, but more in Africa, where is 5th (after Arabic, English, Hausa and Swahili)

12. In Asia is not spoken. In Vietnam, Laos and Kampuchea there are the same French speakers as Quechua speakers: no one.

13. In the Americas is going to disappear. It will be less important than cherokee.

14. In Europe is 4th (after English, German and Russian). In multilingual areas, like European Union and India, the most powerful language is useful: English.

In conclusion, French is useless.

The Spanish language is increasingly becoming more important and more necessary in the U.S. mainly because…

In 2001, the U.S. Latino population was 29.3 million, already over 10% of the total U.S. population, and still growing strong.

By 2010, the U.S. Latino population is estimated to reach 42 million, and will become the largest minority group in the U.S.

By 2040, the U.S. Latino population will be 25% of the total population in the U.S. One in every four people in the U.S. will be Latino.

Latinos in the U.S. represented $477 billion in purchasing power in 2002. Over 50% of U.S. residents who speak a second language, speak Spanish; and 89% of Latinos in the U.S. speak Spanish.

http://www.spanishmaster.com/SpanishMaster/WhySpanish/WhySpanish.html

Very superficial! It didn't mention about science, technology and economy. Oh yes there's one thing that the Spanish world excel in MONKEY BUSINESS and that is DROGA, DRUG TRAFFICKING.

Those exploding population are huge market for cocaine and marijuana coming from Spanish speaking countries. Let them continue to dope, so that they would further loose their mind. just like the hispanic fanatics in this forum.

hahahahahahahahaha!

Spanish is bound to disappear because Hispanic Americans are speaking a bastardized form of Spnish not Castellano and they're evolving into separate neo-spanish languages.

Even in Spain it is bound to disappear because it's being replaced by Catalan, Galician, Basque, Asturian, Aragonese, Leonese, etc.

If French is weak in Asia, more so with Spanish because it's already dead in the Philippines. The Spanish descent elite there spoke English as their firts languge rather than Spanish.
frenche   Tue Jun 12, 2007 3:11 pm GMT
Well , I like to assume good faith on what other people say, guest. If you don't and prefer to act as a troll , offending forumers like me , who is talking politely, it will be better to stop the conversation. I don't mind if you think i don´t say the truth. I speak French, Spanish and English (more or less) so I don't give a damn. If those who promote Frech on antimoon act like you, poor French. French and Spanish are in the end two romance languages ( did I spell it correctly now?), the real competitor of either of them is English.
Spanique   Tue Jun 12, 2007 3:18 pm GMT
I'm Spanish, and I believe that Spanish plays a less important role than French. Spanish is disintegrating just like Latin.

French is spoken in 6 continents while Spanish in just 3. Furthermore Spanish has no contributions in Science and Technolgy Plus the fact that only 20 million people speak it as a foreign language which makes it as an inutil international languge. Unlike French which has 250 million plus speakers as a foreign language.
