what do you mean by golden duck?
Candy   Wed Oct 19, 2005 10:10 am GMT
Lucia, a 'duck' in cricket means that you're out without scoring any runs. A 'golden duck' means that you're out to the first ball that you face, without scoring any runs.

As I'm a Scot this bit of info will impress you mega style:

To bowl a maiden over. It doesn't mean copping off with a virgin - it means bowling an over in cricket (six balls in succession) in which the batsman in the opposing team doesn't score any runs.

Cricket is a predominantly English game in which twenty two guys, usually dressed in white but sometimes in full splendiferous colour, make one game drag on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on...........for days and it's still unclear to the uninitiated who is actually winning..or has won in the end. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

<<Cricket is a predominantly English game>>

??????????? Damian??!! It's played at international Test level in India, Australia, South Africa, West Indies, New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Kenya and Bangladesh as well as England. The vast majority of players and fans are *not* English!

Lucia, watch cricket!! It's a fantastic game, really! I'm a big fan. It's true, though: games last 5 days! :-)
lucia   Wed Oct 19, 2005 2:56 pm GMT

Here are a couple of websites - I'm sure there are some better ones though! Perhaps if you try googling 'cricket rules' or 'cricket matches' or something like that? Alternatively, you can go to http://www.langcafe.net/ , find a thread called 'The Ashes' and ask Loic, from Singapore - he's a great cricket expert! :-)
