How do you pronounce this word? I have [S7:], with [7:] being my "tour" vowel. It apparantly varies, as I've heard other pronunciations.

sher

<<sher>>

Yeah, I've heard that one.

<<I say [S3`:] most of the time, but [Su:@`] occasionally in more formal situations.>>

So for you it's sometimes homophonous with *"shooer"? For me, that would be [S}:@].

I pronounce "sure" as ["S_jR=:], ["tS_j_hR=:], ["S_j}u:R], and sometimes ["S_jyu:R]. "Sure" is never homophonous with "shooer" for me, which is ["S_j}u:R:] or ["S_jyu:R:].

>>["S_j}u:R:] or ["S_jyu:R:].<<

That should be ["S_j}u:R=:] or ["S_jyu:R=:] above.

What about "sho"? Is that Southern?

For me it's [So:] homphonous with "shore" & "Shaw".
