Are these terms really used only exclusively as offensive terms for male homosexuals anymore? I've heard many people use these as general insults to people who are not gay, indicating that they think they're stupid.
"fag" and "faggot"
Unbelievable as it may seem, I heard this used by a teacher to mean "cigarettes"... My brother and I just laughed.
I mean, I know some people use or used to use that for "cigarette", but not anyone WE knew in the USA>
To an American it's a derogatory expression for a gay person (though it is often said to straight people as well, typically males).
In the UK it's a cigarette.
In the UK it's a cigarette.
when they say it to straight males, the term still has its homosexual implication
Do you have a fag?
Can you give me a fag?
Excuse me, would you light my fag?

Was the teacher British?

Think in those cases it might imply the person is (being) weak or something, not necessarily stupid.
