The team contains 5 international caps.
Does it mean that there are 5 players from other countries or 5 players representing the country to play in international matches?

It refers to how many times does a player play in a international game.

I'm not a native English speaker but I'm a footie freak;)

I understand that there are 5 players who represent their country (or countrIES, if they're from more than one country) in international matches.

All the best :)

'Caps' refer to how many times a player has played for their country.

It is an old term refering back to the days when every time he played for his country, he was awarded a cap (ie a little hat) he would wear when playing.

Obviously this was not all that feasible and after a while they stopped the practice, but the terminology remains.

The line "The team contains 5 international caps" means that the collective amount of caps awarded to the specific team is 5. Which is really low, considering that the South African Rugby team which just won the World Cup had well over 400 cap's, even though there were only 33 players in the full squad.

The caps are purely ceremonial, they are not worn whilst playing.
