LL and Y distinction

Hello!

So far I haven't met anyone who naturally pronounces LL and Y differently.

Are there still people who actually distinguish them in their natural speech?
If yes, is this distinction disappearing?

I met people who distinguish between LL and Y, and they live in towns only a few km far away from mine .I personally do not distinguish LL and Y, I can't even pronounce the LL phoneme , no matter how hard I try. Sometimes I simply replace LL by an I to immitate that sound.

I believe that yes, the LL sound is dissapearing even from Castilian Spanish, which is supposed to be the dialect which most heavily uses it. I can't tell about South America and Central America but I guess that the LL sound is dissapering too and merging with the consonantic Y.

Yes , I'm from Spain and my dialect is Castilian Spanish with some southern features. I guess that the LL/Y merging is one of them. It is so widespread now in all Spain that RAE no longer considers it a mistake, but it is still considered more correct in some way to distinguish between LL and Y (at least in Spain).

You're right. Even in the media the distinction is becoming rare.

I recently did a small experiment and only the older generations or in small regions. If you make the distinction, GREAT, you'll have less trouble spelling, if not it's not considered weird. Ya es lo más común y tiene más reversa un jumbo.

Sí, es lo más común no hacerlo, pero diferenciar LL y Y a mi juicio le da un toque de exclusividad y distinción a tu español.

I'm fascinated by the y/ll distinction, and I'd like to know more about it. Can someone post up a recording of the two sounds? Thanks!
