From my understanding, USA does not have an official language de jure.
What the hell is she talking about?

Do you think every US resident should learn English and speak it fluently?
Can US be a bilingual country like Canada at all?

There are official languages in many states of US and all of them have English as the only one. US can't have an official language because only states are allowed to decide about that, not the Federal Government. Said this, also Spanish is recognized in some way in New Mexico but it's not a strictly official language.

English is the de facto official language in the US and in some states they have other official languages. Hawaii recognizes Hawaiian, New Mexico recognizes Spanish and Louisiana recognizes French.
