Am I right or did I listened to them wrongly?

"Does BrE sometimes pronounce { as E?"

In Ireland we pronounce { as "Left Curly Bracket" (or something similar) but "E" is pronounced like the "E" sound you hear in "me" or "tea".

The Queen? You may hear it on melodramas filmed in the early C20, but since then it's seen as a slightly funny aspect of "upper-class" speech and not very common even among royalty.

For anyone interested in hearing how The Queen speaks, you will be able to see/hear her Christmas greeting message to the people of Britain on YouTube.

She does his every year - it's pre-recorded at either Windsor Castle or at Sandringham, but shown on all UK TV channels at 15:00hrs UK time (16:00hrs Western Europe, 17:00hrs Eastern Europe) on Christmas Day, and shown right across the world at the same time, so viewing times obviously vary depending where in the world you are located.

Happy Christmas, or Merry Christmas, or Happy Winterval, depending on which you prefer. Enjoy the Roman feast of Saturnalia!
