<<English and French are the only 2 global languages>>

Also portuguese is a global language ( spoken in america, europe, and africa), and it far out-ranks french in number of speakers.

Be realistic now, there is a reason why no one bothers learning Portuguese. Enough Said.

Je ne suis pas d'accord : le castillan et le portugais ont une diffusion intercontinentale. Le russe et l'allemand également, mais dans une moindre mesure (numérique et spatiale).

English is the only REAL global language.

Sorry but you can't group any language, even French, with English nowadays. French is just like the other big international (not global) languages now. There is less incentive to learn French now because there is no big French power anymore. The most important place for French is in the EU, but more people speak German and English there.

mac : d'après ton propre raisonnement, la durée de vie de l'anglais avec le statut que tu sembles lui attribuer est plus que limitée. Partout les États-Unis sont en recul ; et ça n'est pas près de changer.

Sorry but you're referring to Spanish that is only limited to Sp[ain and Latin America and will never be a glonal language just a regional language. Nobody study it as a foreign language except USA and even there majority of which are native English speaking hispanic descents.

Sorry, I can't read French very well. Apparently you can read English, so I please reply in English. Thanks.

Hewlett, did you see me mention Spanish anywhere? Why did you go on an anti-Spanish tangent when I never specifically mentioned it? Strange. Also, I said that English is the only GLOBAL language, so you didn't need to point out that Spanish isn't. But neither is French, which is my point.

As long as you seperate global from international, you can say French is interational. But so is Spanish because it's spoken on 3 continents in 20 countries. That sounds pretty "international" to me. I think "regional" would be a large language in one area in a couple countries, like Chinese or Hindi.

1st in the US, 4th in Europe, 3rd overall in the world. That doesn't seem too bad to me.

By your spelling I will assume you are not a native English speaker and don't live in the US, so how would you know? But I do live in the US and I know that you are wrong. Overall, most students are not hispanic. But of course if you go somewhere like California or Texas, the situation might be different. Of the hispanic children that grow up here, some speak both English and Spanish and some only English. It depends on the situation.

I agree with most this list, except the economic point is more debatable or will be soon. What is China's economic standing compared to Japan and Spanish countries now? Isn't it supposed to overtake Japan soon?
