To a mathematician or a physicist, the difference between speed and velocity is that SPEED is strictly a number ("His speed at the moment of impact was 72 km/h") whereas VELOCITY is a vector quantity, with both a number and a direction ("His velocity was 72 km/h due east").
In informal language the two words are used interchangeably. Acceleration is the rate at which speed or velocity is changing. There isn't separate terminology to distiguish between scalar-valued acceleration (the rate at which speed is changing) and vector-valued acceleration (the vector which describes how velocity is changing). If I start with a low speed and end up at a high speed, I've experienced a positive acceleration during that time. As long as I travel at a constant velocity, I'm experiencing zero acceleration. Too bad that neither sentence is correct. This would work:
"I will travel to space at light speed." As would this: "Travelling at light speed, I will go to space." But even those sound a tad flaky. You'd have to rearrange "light speed" a bit to make them sound natural.
