when i saw the film "the Wizard of OZ",i'm found Judy Garland's accent is quite different from the commen American accent i've known,so i wonder that did accent change in the past decades and it's still changing?
Just get confused about an accent could change in a single century, that's all lol

While television and mass media have changed accents somewhat, keep in mind that actors and actresses in her time used a somewhat less-rhotic American stage accent. In doesn't necessarily reflect the way people spoke in the street at that time.

I agree with mjd that the stage accent of most early and mid 20th century movies was not representative of the average American accent of the time.

I noticed the same thing, when I watch an old American movie people speak differently from those in today's movies.
