"Goober" is a Southern American word meaning "peanut." I don't know what other meaning it might have these days.

"goober" is '80s slang for a dork, geek, nerd, hick, etc.; someone who's unhip and out of place in our trend conscious society.

In the American south, it's a nickname or term of endearment for a family member or friend who is sweetly naive, with their wide-eyed innocence, big toothy grin, and "aw-shucks" humility.
