In Spanish the official name is marihuana.
Marijuana is a diminutive of Maria Juana, a name of woman

Maria Juana = Mary Jane in English.

Deborah, I was referring to the standard used in the UK for the writing of English there by "British English", as there is no specific spoken dialect or set of dialects which may be referred to as such, of course, even though some may say "British English" when they mean spoken "English English" per se.

really good pot - "cush"

Sadly, today the US Supreme Court ruled that federal authorities may prosecute people who use marijuana for medicinal purposes and that state laws do not protect them from a federal ban on drugs. This flies in the face of countless documented cases of sick people feeling better, or at least able to cope with their symptoms, after smoking pot or injesting marinol. The people of the state of California overwhelmingly voted to legalize medicinal marijuana several years back. Does this mean that our votes don't count in the federal system?? Whatever happened to democracy? I am appalled. I vote that the state of California secede from the union.

Sorry for my rant. I am just so angry.
