Tipo/Clase, plurals, and politeness

Are all of these correct or just some of them?

¿Qué clase/tipo de herramientas tiene? Asked of a neighbor

¿Qué clase/tipo de aliño (o aderezo o salsa) tiene? Asked by a child to a waitress/server.

Yes both are correct but you don't need to use 'clase/tipo' in the question. For instance
¿Qué herramientas tiene?
¿Qué condimentos/salsas/aderezos/aliño tiene?
Check out this link if you want to know how to use these words in context : vhttp://www.enbuenasmanos.com/articulos/muestrasub.asp?sub=0607

Thank-you. I saw something similar in a Spanish book for children published in Britain. It's okay to use either tipo or clase in both examples, then?
