when someone says 'someting came my way..'

what's that mean?

Apart from the obvious literal meaning, in a figurative sense it can mean: I got something by chance (by being lucky).

The emphasis, I (native speaker) might add, is on getting the something, not the lucky nature of it:

"Some wonderful CDs came my way."

We think more about the fact that the CDs came than about the fact that it was fortunate or lucky.

Well, that's the literal sense, not the figurative one stated earlier.

It just means "came to me". Sometimes it's in reference to something lucky, sometimes it has nothing to do with luck.

ok, thanks for your answers all.

one more question, how did the 'came my way' come to mean such meaning? can anyone analyze the expression?
I know analyzing tends to be useless, but it sometimes help though.
