How do you pronounce Anglo-Saxon?
a word that many at this forum uses, but how do you pronounce it?
Do you say Anglosaxon (as one word) or Anglo (a little pause) Saxon
and for the O; Angloo-Saxon, Angloe-Saxon or Angloh-Saxon???
just wondering
There is not a pause of any sort, as English is not like, say, German in that it does not separate words from each other at the syllabic level. However, from what you say about it being pronounced as one or two words, it does receive (at least here) only a single primary stress. As for the particulars of pronunciation, here it is pronounced as (using X-SAMPA) /"eNglos{ksIn/ -> ["e~:N.g5o.s{k.sI~n].
I pronounce it pretty much exactly as Travis does (altho where I'd assign the primary stress would depend on context). Using semi-narrow transcription I pronounce it:
[eNglo"s{ksIn]
<<and for the O; Angloo-Saxon, Angloe-Saxon or Angloh-Saxon???>>
My /o/ there is no different than my /o/ in a word like "hope." My /o/ is somewhat centralized, mostly unrounded, and mostly monophthongal (unless followed by a pause).
I recorded myself saying the word in isolation and then in a sentence:

I pronounce it as either ["eINgloU%s{ksn=] or [%eINgloU"s{ksn=] depending on context.
For example, if I said "the Anglo-Saxon artifacts", then I would put the primary stress on the first syllable, but if I said, "Britain was invaded by Anglo-Saxons" or "Those artifacts are Anglo-Saxon", then I would put the primary stress on the third syllable.
Actually, I myself, now that I think about it, have stress placement dependent on usage for "Anglo-Saxon" like that of Lazar's.
I pronounce it as ['{NgloU"s{ksn=] or ['eiNgloU"s{ksn=].
REPEAT AFTER ME YES? AN-GLO.... WAN KERS

PS
Do widzenia i na razie !
you pronounce it the same way as "viking"
Interesting. I pronounce it as [ANglo"s{ks@n]
