Hi,

Please, how would you say?

1. You have to take bus seven.
2. You have to take bus number seven.
3. You have to take the seven bus.
4. You have to take the seven (if it’s clear that a bus).
5. You have to take number seven.

Thanks.

Probably "you should take the bus number 7", or "the number 7", if it's clear you're talking about buses.

I would choose number 1. The person above is wrong.

It depends on one's familiarity with buses. I'm a seasoned bus user and I know the system inside out. If another seasoned bus user like myself asks me a question I'll naturally just say something like 'you should take the 301', but if it's a tourist I'll make it clearer because they might not be familiar with it, so I'll say 'take the bus number 301, you can find it over there, look for the...'

I am a native New Yorker, and In New York you would hear for example "Take the 7 train". if it were a bus you would say "Take the Q9 bus" or whatever it's called.

Thank you very much.

Guest is right, but typically people live in those areas would often just say "Take the 7" or "Take the Q9". The locals would know that they are talking about a bus, but if the local were talking to a tourist they would be likely to throw the word "bus" in there so the tourist would know what they mean.
